El Diablo

Meet "El Diablo!" ED is made from a century old homemade violin case. He was an adventure straight from the bowels of hell that began two years ago. I had the brilliant idea of trying to build a pedal steel out of this century old homemade coffin-shaped violin case given to me by an artist friend. After 5 or 6 respectable attempts at engineering a pedal system of string benders, I threw a cover over it and set it off to the side for 2 years. About a month ago I uncovered it and began yet another two or three attempts on pedal mechanism. I got very close, in fact it actually worked, but was difficult to keep in tune and popped strings frequently. (Pedal steel builders and players, insert laughter here). This may have been the most snake-bit, unadulterated mess of a project that I can remember, easily earning him the name El Diablo, or "the devil" in Spanish. ED is now a very nice sounding lap steel. I will post audio and video as soon as I can get to it. Throw open the gates of hell, El Diablo is on the loose!
